West Coast Travel Advice

By

IMG_3552.jpgMy folks are crossing the Alantic in a few weeks to tour the West coast.

They will visit Los Angeles, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, San Francisco and wine country

Does anyone have tips on must-see places and must-eat restaurants that are not immediately obvious, particularly in LA and San Francisco?

After their whirlwind tour of the wild West they will stop in New York, only their second visit since I moved here in 2003.

Come on parents! Two visits in four years!

I just comment on a entry talking about a photo by Carter Kevin who committed suicide…

Sigh, we live such a happy life.

I would say Death Valley and Yosemite are a must but then I’m a country sort of fellow. What they do have to do is drive down the Big Sur. Ideally in a convertible e-type Jag

Just to clarify: They are on a tour that includes a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon and a boat ride on Lake Tahoe.

I am looking for suggestions for places they can eat at/visit independently while they are staying in the cities.

How about McDonalds?

For a taste of a true San Francisco Mission Style burrito (SF is the US burrito capital) have them go to Pancho Villa on Valencia and 16th. Other places like El Farrolito do it a little better/different, but PVs is my fave

There are a variety of things they can do. While in San Francisco they can go to the Restaurant Lulu, they may want to make reservations ahead of time. Its a pricey but it is a very nice restaurant. They have their own website whereas you can do this. http://www.restaurantlulu.com/
I also read something that they were planning a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon? San Francisco Helicopter Service offers this as well. http://www.sfhelicoptertours.com/
While in Los Angeles they could probably visit the Bistro Garden Restaurant.

These are only a “few” things. It just depends on what they like doing? Each of these places and businesses are pretty reputable and are very well known to locals.

McDonald’s is the best way to get more calories per penny than any place on earth. But why aren’t your parents going to San Diego, the most beautiful city in the western hemisphere? And it’s even more a standout because there are so few women there. It’s comprised mostly of hot surfer dudes. YUMMY!
