Techno-Illogical Hitch

By pdberger

I think Christopher Hitchens is a great writer. But that doesn’t mean I agree with everything he says. I don’t believe the Virginia Tech shootings was a “non story” for one. Nor do I agree that Democratic voters are to blame for helping George W Bush into the White House.

In a recent interview with Radar magazine, Hitchens said:

If George Bush, Sr., had that second term, I think we would be living in a better world in lots of ways. One of which would have been, we never would have elected George Bush, Jr. People forget that. People who always vote Democratic don’t realize that if they didn’t want this George Bush they should have voted for the last.

Gawker’s Alex Balk fails to see the logic:

You know, I remember the 1992 election: It was the first one for which I was eligible to vote. I vividly recall the deep dilemma I was in: I could choose a guy whose 1988 campaign was won on an ugly strategy that catered to the worst kind of racist stereotypes about black people, or I could pull the lever for the governor of Arkansas and take the risk that his opponent’s recovering alcoholic son might not become the commissioner of baseball and, bored with simply owning the Texas Rangers, run for governor of Texas, win two terms, run for president himself, eke out a narrow victory essentially decided by the Supreme Court, and then use the panic and fear engendered by the subsequent worst terrorist attack on American soil to mislead the country into a war that would become a disaster without end. I’m sorry to say I voted for Clinton. I wish I had thought it through a little more.

Paul: I think I slightly agree with Mr Hitchens as much as I disagree with his brother of the Daily Mail writings.
Anyhow did you know the same day as the Virginia Tech Mascara (http://emekonnen.blogspot.com/2007/04/virginia-tech-mascara.html) more than 170 Iraqis murdered?
And the audacity of Bush flying to Virginia to give his condolences may be he needs to go to Iraq and give his condolences to those innocent Iraqis.
