Setting the World to Rights

By

IMG_0939.jpg

Our houseguests left on Sunday after a ten-day New York holiday. One of the highlights of having my friend Aidan in town was the opportunity to set the world to rights over a beer. The Mars Bar (pictured above) was an excellent venue. And the $5.50 whiskeys helped.

One of our debates was about Iran. Aidan felt that the threat of Ahmadinejad and other Iranian hardliners was overblown. I disagreed. Though I do think antipathy or opposition to such extreme views is underreported in the West.

Nevertheless, this video of a cultural advisor to the Iranian Education Ministry reminded me why I am so concerned. Imagine if this was an advisor to a Western government. Via (Anorak.)

This is so pathetically sad that I can’t even laugh at the stupidity and farcial aspect of it. I am not Jewish(just a middle aged agnostic American), but as a human being seeing this kind of hatred(that is not only obsessed over in Iran only..unfortunately)makes me ill. I don’t GET this obsession with the hate and insensible FEAR of Jewish people–seems to me something that should have died out in the Middle Ages.
Been reading your blog off and on for the last year or so…first time of course, that I have come out of the de-lurking corner to comment, though.

Bravo!

Tee, I think it still is the Middle Ages in some of these people’s heads.
