Now showing at the Flatbush Pavilion: “Revel in Fish in Non Glaring Semen From Havana”.
Since our local cinema on Flatbush Avenue closed last May the marquee has advertised the last two films to play there: “Van Helsing” and “Man on Fire”. And as our ultra-excellent hyper-local Dailyheights reported last week, someone has decided it’s time for a change.
Last week we were treated to the delights of “Hanna Have Snail Venom From Ginseng Firm”. Now this. Whatever next? The locals at Dailyheights have a few ideas. Meanwhile the mystery is not just how they did it, but where did they get the extra letter “R” from?
It’s changed again. I took the above photo at about 5pm yesterday. This photo was taken at 3.45pm today.
Now Showing: “Nine Vain Men Form A Gavel Of Lies”. Much more family friendly, if a little downbeat.
Other links for today:
An alternative trailer for (The) Shining (via Nick)
The New York Times story that explains it (via Macboy)
If you liked that, you’ll like these other alternative trailers: West Side Story and Titanic (via BoingBoing)
And last but not least, why not download a free subway/tube map for your iPod?

It should be noted that a) The movie titles were originally displayed on both sides of the marquee, so that doubles the number of letter tiles available for mischief, (38 instead of 19);
And b) The authors cheated a bit. There are only two R’s available (in FIRE x2), but three R’s used in the remix. And they left out one of the eight N’s.
Dunno if this is the sort of thing that could nerdily interest you, but this link http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tube/maps/realunderground/realunderground.html shows you a ‘real’ version of the London tube map, which, you never know, might leave you nostalgic, or bored, or saying ‘ooh!’
[...] I have a story in the City Section of the New York Times today about the rogue anagrammers messing with the Flatbush Pavilion marquee that I mentioned last week. By a stroke of luck I ran into the first anagrammer, David Collins, on my way home from a friend’s house last week. [...]
