On The Waterfront

It was a busy day in New York Harbor yesterday. A sighting of a humpback whale. And an enormous container ship set sail from Red Hook.

It’s not really the sort of scene that springs to mind when you think of Brooklyn.

I was watching that same ship out my window yesterday. And cool – it looks like the QM2 will be here Tuesday: http://www.nycruise.com/sched_2009.html

The back end of that ship reminds me of a crushed piano. My mind falters when it comes to figuring out how a behemoth like that can actually float.

Did those guys catch anything while you were there? There is a pier a bit like that in Buenos Aires except it’s warmer & nicer. I watched a guy play a huge carp there once. The pier was a good ten metres above the water and even from that distance the fish almost filled my viewfinder. Or maybe I was on zoom but anyway it was an epic battle that the fish eventually won.

Nothing of any note, Beau. There was a sliced fish on a chopping board, but it would barely have fed one.
