On The Road Again

On the road again. This time headed for Austin, Texas, on another work project.

I’m really looking forward to seeing Texas again after our roadtrip from Houston to Big Bend to Marfa last year. I’m expecting tasty barbecue, great live music and lots of big hats.

If this work assignment is similar to the last one in England there won’t be too much spare time. But I do intend to make the most of it, and to find out why the city’s unofficial motto is “Keep Austin Weird.”

That guy in your picture is a good example of the growing number of people who make the mistake of chosing comfort over style when travelling. White trainers/black socks/chinos! And I bet he’s going to carry on that case rather than stow it. All wrong.

So what’s your traveling uniform?

3

For the last one it was: navy blue Canali super 120′s suit, white Thomas Pink shirt (open at the neck), black John Lobb shoes & a tan Burberry mac. I was in business class already but, had I not been, they’d have upgraded me anyhow as I was looking pretty sharp. Unlike your typical sloth traveller pictured above who is dressed for digging ditches.

Does it make a difference if sloth traveler is sitting in the JetBlue lounge?

Every seat on our Embraer 190 was the same. Even if sloth traveler had been wearing a tux, he could never have been upgraded.

That’s true, I remember the internal US flights I took… Very dreary affairs.

6

So, would you dress down? Or would you still sock it to ‘em with the open collar Thomas Pink shirt?

7

But open collar IS dress down.

So why is city’s unofficial motto “Keep Austin Weird”?
