In his zealous rant about a report from Iran, which said that a teenage boy died after being whipped for breaking the Ramadan fast, Pastor Joseph Grant Swank Jr. laments Islam as a “murdering religion”. Liberal Muslims who defend Islam, he says, “have not studied Islam in its demonic theological context as well as its practical killing mode.”
True, Grant Swank’s Judeo-Christian values do not come close to allowing the state to lash people to death for contravening religious law. Instead, he looks forward to the day when the Lord wil do his dirty work for him, as he illustrates in an October article on homosexuality:
“These times can be extremely frightening  not only from international killers seeking to do us all in, but from those in our midst who flaunt their sin as if it’s today’s righteousness. In due time, the divine wrath will slice through it all  with a fury.”
A look back at some of Grant Swank’s previous Op-Ed’s unearth more caring, sharing Christian values, such as the astounding insight on October 9 that the 2004 Kerry v Bush election shows that “the forces of light against darkness are at their height. Michael the Archangel is pitting holiness strength against Lucifer and the demons of hell.”
God Grant Swank the gift to continue, that I may revel in his words daily!

Yea, but EINY, he broke the damn fast!! And they killed him, in the world’s only Islamic theocracy. No outrage over that?

Of course it’s outrageous. My point is that Swank is just as bad. The only reason zealots like him are restrained is that they live in a liberal democracy. Probably one that’s far too liberal in their opinion.
Furthermore I take exception to accusations that Islam is a “murdering religion”. Yes, people kill and are killed in the name of Islam. But the same has, does and will happen in the name of all religions. So, is religion murderous? Or is man murderous and religion just his excuse?
Answers on a postcard please…

I also take issue with that characterization of Islam. It’s not necessarily wrong, but the fact that someone was executed in Iran is hardly proof of it. But be reasonable EINY, you think Swank is just as bad? He’s a reactionary idiot, but the Iranians are murderers.

“The Iranians are murderers” — what does that mean? All Iranians are murderers? Some Iranians are murderers? The people who sentence others to lashings because they break a religious law are murderers? Or the people who carry them out until someone dies are murderers?
What is a murderer? Is the person who delivers a lethal injection a murderer? How about that soldier who shot the unarmed Iraqi insurgent in the mosque? Is George Bush a murderer for starting a war which has caused tens of thousands of deaths? Is that worse than the drunk driver who kills a family through his reckless actions?
I think you should be careful bandying around phrases like “the Iranians are murderers”. After all, murder to one man, is righteousness and justice to another.

Whoa EINY, back up a second. I might accept your point about murderers. True, killers is probably a more apt description. But spare me the rest. I never said “all” or “some” Iranians. And I only need to be careful of ‘bandying about phrases’ when those phrases are taken out of context. I was clearly referring to those involved in carrying out the sentence, and yes, I would include those who sentenced the dude as well.
But all of this is only to distract from your original claim that Swank, whose only crime is being stupid, is just as bad as the Iranians who fucking killed the hungry Ramadan guy, and that’s just ludicrous.
But then again, this is your blog so you set the moral standards – not I. I say we settle this like gentlemen, with a healthy game of Scrabble.
