Loose Ends

By

Today will be spent frantically sorting out last-minute work things, putting up a tent in the living room to make sure I can still do it, packing clothes, and packing up this computer to be sent back to Apple (that’s a story for another day). But before I go:

New Yorkers can look out for my latest story in the New York Times City Section on Sunday. Proud mothers will have to make do with the Internet. Mum, it should be on this page on Sunday for one week.

Secondly, a friend of mine is going to London soon and she needs some local advice on where to go and what to do. She’s already done the tourist thing. Now, she wants the real thing. I left London more than five years ago so my knowledge is pretty dated. Maybe you’d like to drop some suggestions in the comments box.

Thirdly, I have another Blogarithms piece in Metro today. The feature has moved to a permanent home towards the front of the book which I’m taking as a good sign. Pick up a copy. If you’re not in the city you can download a pdf of the page (UPDATE: or view it online).

Oh, and this story made me laugh.

I suggest sundown drinks on the sixth floor of the OXO tower. Great views of the river. Also, if you are hungry late nights, head to Edgewear Road for kebabs, hookah, and conversation.

I used to enjoy walking along the south bank of the river, especially around Tower Bridge. There are lots of good places to eat and drink around there. There’s also a nice place on the opposite side of the river from Tower Bridge, I think called Butler’s Wharf, where you can sit outside and have a beer.

Another good place to explore is Borough Market. There’s also a good pub down there. I think it’s called the King’s Head. Anyone?

Take a look on http://www.beerintheevening.com – a truly wonderful resource.

Are you writing these latest posts from the road or are you pulling a fast one and having them publish themselves?

I’m onto you!

Definitely take a boat along the Thames to Greenwich for the day. If the weather is good it is one of the nicest ways to travel here.
Also, check out Borough Market on a Saturday. It’s at London Bridge Tube Station on the Northern Line.
Another favourite is Richmond Park. If you fancy some time out os the centre take a trip down there. Richmond Town Centre is lovely and you get to wander around with the Deer.
Enjoy!
