Challenge Cup quarter-finals
Leeds 32 12 London Broncos

The win was not as emphatic as the score line suggests. Having racked up 140 points in the last two matches, Leeds found themselves up against a side which was determined to slog it out the hard way, helped by a soft surface and a greasy ball.

At half time the score was 10 – 6 to Leeds with fine tries by McGuire and Walker. But ten minutes into the second half saw London score and then convert the try giving them a 2 point lead. This remained the score until the final fifteen minutes of the game when following a fine run by McKenna, Burrow broke the London defence with a piece of sheer brilliance and Sinfield’s conversion put Leeds four points in front. London seemed to visibly wilt and Leeds at last began to tear them apart.

Three tries in the last twelve minutes, from McGuire (his second), Bai and Senior put Leeds out of sight. The three other quarter-finals are to be played today and Sunday. The favourites to go into the semi-final draw with Leeds are St Helens, Hull and Widnes.

From Lew on League’s email: Here is the latest blog. Your mother and I were at Headingley. She told me afterwards that when Sinfield lead the team out at the start and he was walking with the team mascot youngster she thought that he had come out holding Rob Burrow by the hand and wondered why that should be. Nuff said. dad.

It was nice to see Mr & Mrs Berger at Headingley on Friday night. Although Mrs B kept giving concerned glances in the direction of Jonny Graham and myself at various points in the match as we got a little over excited, I think she enjoyed herself ! PS I away for the Semi Final so wil be logging onto www.pdberger.com for an honest assesment of the game !
