Lew on League
ByPreview of Wigan v Leeds RL
(An occasional rugby league blog by my dad)
The game is tonight, Friday evening, eight o clock GMT which makes it an afternoon game for those unfortunates who will not be able to see it in the U.S.ofA. It should be a cracking game.
Both teams are renowned for open play. I said this of the London game and Leeds tore them apart. If Wigan are not up to standard this will happen to them, but playing at home they are a tough team to beat. They have been losing games recently but that was because of a large injury list. In the last game they were without Terry Newton and their pack did not give the lead it should. However he will be back for the Leeds match and alongside Seuseu and the tough Frenchman Guisset they will form a strong front row. They also welcome back Dennis Moran, a brilliant half back.
The question is will Smith bring in MacDonald to replace the banned Danny Ward? If so, Leeds will have a heavyweight pack with MacDonald, McDermott and Bailey. They will then play a careful game, wearing down their opponents until they crack, when they will swing the ball about to score tries.
Wigan will have to hope that their speed and agility can make up for the pressure that will be placed on their forwards and score early tries. If Macdonald does not play, Leeds will be faster but will then hope that their speed men are superior to those of Wigan. Whatever happens we know that we are going to see a fine game of Rugby League.
