Israel Pop Quiz

I have to admit to being a little suspicious of this video. Can British people really be this stupid? Or did the filmmakers have to interview a lot of people before they could edit together these clips? (Via Wellsy.)

Stupidity for sure, especially that woman in purple. I love it when people talk utter nonsense as if they know it to be true.

In their defense though, I think it also shows how much of a none issue ‘Jewishness’ is for most people in the UK. Before I came to New York, beyond feeling sympathy when watching holocaust movies and loving Woody Allen, I had no particular interest/knowledge about Jewish people or Jewish culture. They were just another loony religious sect to me, like the Christians/Muslims/take your pick. Thankfully I didn’t think there were 45 million people in Israel, or that the primary religion was Islam, or that Afghanistan was the capital? I mean for Christ’s sake!

It also helps that the producers picked the kind of people who get there current affairs news from OK magazine. I think every nation has its share of these blinkered cretins, so you shouldn’t think too badly of the British.

45 million is not too bad – it’s only one order of magnitude out – compared with 3,000. They are clearly showing some very stupid people.
