Heathrow — Homeward Bound

By

Well, here I am at Heathrow airport with hours to spare before my 6pm flight to New York. I’ve managed to find one of the few, hidden power points in the departure lounge (it’s just outside Dixons hidden in a panel under some carpet, in case you ever need it). It’s great that you can get wirless internet access here, but the price tag of five pounds for one hour (7.50 for three hours) is a bit steep – especially when you convert it into dollars.

The next five days are going to be manic with a weekend deadline looming and four interviews still to complete for Squibnocket’s forthcoming book on blogging. EINY blogging may be brief over the next few days, although I intend to post daily…

This blog was never meant to be a personal diary, so there is not much to tell about the past two weeks, except that they have been incredibly busy and enjoyable. I have spent the last four days in the Dorset countryside thinking wistfully of my time in Cornwall and trying desperately not to catch the flu which seems to be doing the rounds.

PS: I don’t know how good my info on the electricity supply outside Dixons is! I’ve just been told by a kindly security guard that I am stealing electricity from Heathrow airport. Apparently, I have to apply for written permission before I am allowed to plug a laptop in. Which begs the question, if you are able to pay an extortionate amount of money for a few hours Internet access, why is there no provision for a power supply?

Oh, how I love England…
