A Purim Like No Other
By
I think this is going to go down as one of the strangest Purim parties I ever attended. It’s been about 15 years since I last celebrated this Jewish festival but with Sofie out of town on a business trip to South America, I didn’t think long when Ben Baruch invited me to join him for Purim celebrations at Brooklyn Academy of Music on Saturday night. The BAM party finished early, but somehow we found our way to the Lubavitch Chabad in Carroll Gardens, where a roomful of Chasidic Jews ate, drank and danced like they were at a German techno party circa 1995. The highlight of the evening—Chasidic reggae artist Matisyahu’s impromptu performance with Stanley Ipkiss.

Hi Paul,
I was wondering are you Jewish? I always thought the name Berger appears a bit of German.
Cheers Ermiyas

Paul is not Jewish, he is from the Welsh Bergers… A long line of sheep herders finally forced to flee Wales when their concepts of “animal husbandry” were outlawed by parliament

Beau
Thanks for your knowledge of Paul

Yes, thank you Beau
Ermiyas, much as I would love to come from a distinguished line of Welsh sheepherders, I am in fact, Jewish.
I’m afraid that I told Beau the Welsh sheepherder story because I thought he would not like me if he thought I was German.
